Once every decade, the good people of Oberammergau, Germany, produce and perform an amazing re-enactment of the Passion of Christ, Jesus’ final week of earthly ministry.
The Oberammergau citizens have performed this play faithfully every ten years since 1633, when the Black Plague swept through Europe. The people of this German hamlet took an oath: if God would spare them, they would present a day-long play chronicling the last week of Christ’s life.
Miraculously, the plague passed over Oberammergau, and the citizens have honored their vow ever since. The 2010 passion play will mark 377 years that the town’s people have performed before international audiences. Those who have seen it declare this spiritual spectacle to be a remarkable event.
Pastor David and Jody will lead a group of our church members and guests on an 11-day tour that includes the Oberammergau Passion Play, Prague, Budapest, Vienna, and Munich.
