Erica Gapp

I have been attending Graham Memorial Presbyterian Church since at least 2008 – the timeline is a little fuzzy sometimes.  I was very involved in a church I was attending in Chula Vista, but as my family grew, driving an hour in evening rush hour traffic for Bible studies and ministry involvement became less doable.  We started looking for a church on the island where we could serve.

I began serving at Graham in Children’s Ministries in the nursery and then Sunday School. I was the Awana Sparks director for a few years, and was a VBS leader, either in the Bible story room or as a group leader. I’ve been on the Missions Committee off and on for years, and this year I am serving on the Nominating Committee. I am on staff here as the Bookkeeper, which also makes me “the shuffler of paperwork” on the Finance Committee.

As hobbies, I love photography, reading, and studying the Bible, apologetics, and history. I also enjoy sustainable, low-waste, and renewable living as a practical form of creation care. One way I currently practice this is by making my own toothpaste (since that is a popular question in this “spotlight.”) We’d love to have more land one day to do more of those kinds of things!

I am married to my husband, Michael, and am the mom of three girls and step-mom of two boys. We homeschool, so that means we’re doing life together always. We share our small house with two dogs, three bunnies, a guinea pig, a few crayfish, a turtle, and a school of fish. We love to camp, go to the beach and the bay, explore new things and places, and just hang out at home together.

As a child, I wanted to buy Australia, kick off all the people, and rescue all the animals of the then San Diego urban sprawl. Now, I work three jobs – I direct our homeschool campus, I work as the Bookkeeper for Graham (as previously mentioned) as well as for another company. As soon as my kids all graduate from high school, I would love to travel the world, volunteer teach impoverished kids, or whatever the Lord has for me then.

If I could go back in time and meet anyone, there are so many that come to mind, it’s hard to choose. I would love to meet Corrie Ten Boom’s sister, Betsy, or Elisabeth Elliot. Both were women of inspiringly deep faith who faced evil with steadfast joy.
