Dan & Holly Swanson

Dan and Holly Swanson have attended Graham since they arrived in Coronado in 2014, after Dan retired from Battelle Memorial Inst. and Oak Ridge National Laboratory. It was a natural return for them, as they became part of 5 generations involved with Graham. Holly’s maternal grandparents were members, as were her parents, Harry and Mickey Higgs, who were married at the church. Dan and Holly’s daughter Laura, was also married at Graham in 2001, and their children, Micah and Annalisa, have been participants in VBS at Graham.

Holly has been a deacon at Graham for 6 years, during which time she has served in various roles, including being in charge of communion setup, leading the meal train, and baking for receptions, among others. Dan has been an elder for 6 years, serving as Clerk of Session, and chair of the Personnel and the Ad Hoc Gracious Dismissal Committees. Both Dan and Holly were active members for several years with the Christian Education Committee, as leaders of their elder-deacon groups, and for several years, as leaders of Awana and VBS.

Holly and Dan were married in 1972 (yes, they have a big anniversary coming up), and during their married lives have lived in Nashville, the Washington DC area, Columbus, OH, Idaho Falls, ID, and Oak Ridge, TN. They have 4 children: Kiersten who lives with them; Laura, who is married to Matt (and have 2 children), Micah and Annalisa living in Sunnyvale, and 2 identical sons: Eric married to Maria (who have 2 children, Lucca and Svea) in Huntington Beach, and Benjamin married to Shannon (and their son, Tor, at Stanford Univ). They have truly been blessed by the Lord with abundant family!

Dan and Holly met on a blind date at Denison University in Ohio. Dan then continued to Vanderbilt U. where he earned his law degree. While Holly held down the biggest job of raising their children and finding time at different points in her life as a preschool and kindergarten teacher, Dan worked at the Atomic Energy Comm. and the Nuclear Regulatory Comm. as a hearing attorney, and later as a General Counsel for a division at Battelle Memorial Inst, and as a partner in law firms in Columbus as a nuclear regulatory and environmental attorney.

They want to express their profound appreciation for the Graham community for supporting them through the ordeal of Holly’s recovery after being hit by a car while she was riding a bicycle. Through the gift of many meals, cards, notes, visits, and most important, prayers, they were comforted and encouraged through a very difficult and ongoing period of healing and physical therapy. Hopefully, Holly has successfully undergone her 4th and final surgery following the crash, and they are uplifted by the tremendous and palpable encouragement they continue to receive from the Graham community. They are so thankful for being a part of this Christian family, which has demonstrated time and again its faith in Christ through their deeds.
